Discovery Reflects Changes To Screening Procedures And ELCC Practice Guide

The Chief Provincial Public Health Officer has endorsed changes to the ELCC Practice Guide to reflect current guidance for keeping the ELCC sector safe and protected during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The screening tool has changed slightly. Beginning September 28, 2020 parents should be prepared to be screened using all of the questions when dropping off their children at the Centre. The new screening checklist can be found at

The guide has also updated clarifications of timelines when symptomatic children and staff need to stay away/and return to the Centre;

  • Test results are negative= child can return 24 hours after symptoms resolve
  • NO test= isolation period of 10 days and symptoms resolved before returning
  • Test result is positive = Public Health will be in contact to provide advice. Public health typically follows up with contacts of cases within 24 to 48 hours.

Parents may also be glad to know that as part of Outbreak Management, as directed by Public Health, centres will send a letter to notify parents/guardians when there is a confirmed positive case of COVID-19 at an ELCC facility (aligns with Manitoba Education guidance).
