Lunch Heating Update: Flexible Container Choices
Several years ago, as part of our commitment to connecting children with nature and supporting healthy practices, we explored research regarding the potential risks of heating food in plastic containers. Since then, we have encouraged families to send children’s lunches and heat-ups in glass containers whenever possible.
With newer evidence indicating that some plastics are now considered safe for reheating, and after thoughtful consideration of parent feedback, we have decided to update our approach. Families may now choose the container that works best for sending their child’s lunch or heat-up.
Please note that Discovery will not provide containers for heat-ups, and families are responsible for sending food in suitable, clearly labeled containers from home.
As a reminder, during the warmer months we will continue to limit the use of microwaves. This allows our groups greater flexibility to enjoy spontaneous outdoor experiences, such as taking lunch to the park.
Thank you for your continued support and cooperation.
